Trio Relevé
Maya: A serious chamber musician, Maya has played piano and cello in many ensembles. She has performed as a pianist with JCM chamber music groups for five years. Fifteen-year-old Maya studies piano with Mark Richman. Until recently, she also studied cello and was a member of the Glendale Youth Orchestra. She was the first member in the orchestra’s history to win the annual concerto competition, in separate years, for both piano and cello. Maya organizes annual benefit and free community concerts, the most recent of which supported music education advocates Education Through Music – Los Angeles. A member of the National Honor Society, Maya is a sophomore at John Burroughs High School. In addition to her passion for piano and music, she enjoys singing, dancing, choreography, musical theatre and art.
Katharine: Katharine’s orchestra experience includes eight years at the Colburn School, where she played with the Youth and Chamber Orchestras, and two years with the Chamber Institute as a merit scholar. She was a member of SCSBOA Honors Orchestra, and has played professionally with Moonlight Amphitheatre in San Diego. A senior at John Burroughs High School, she served two terms as Site Council President, is currently Co-President of GSA, and was peer elected as ambassadorship to the HOBY Leadership Foundation. Katharine attended the COSMOS program at UCSD, served an internship in biomedical engineering at UCLA, and plans to study music and biology in the fall. She currently studies with Dr. Cheryl Scheidemantle.
Ryan: Ryan Choi has studied the cello for nine years and currently studies with John Walz. He began his cello studies in the third grade and has been playing ever since. Within the past few months, Ryan has also been selected as principal cellist of the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association’s (SCSBOA) High School Honor Orchestra and has placed first in the Junior Bach Festival. Ryan practices with a small chamber ensemble weekly, volunteering his time to perform in convalescent homes. Other than enjoying music, Ryan likes sleeping in and listening to falling raindrops on his roof on a rainy day. He hopes to incorporate his passion for music when he attends university.
