GROUPING REQUESTS

How can I request a particular coach?

On the application form, there is a question regarding requests.  Indicate in preference for coaches, repertoire, or teammates here.  You can also mention it during auditions, and in an email to your director.  Some coaches have limited availability.

Can I request to be grouped with my friends?

On the application form, there is a question regarding requests.  Indicate in preference for coaches, repertoire, or teammates here.  You can also mention it during auditions, and in an email to your director. JCM directors will check that the levels match and that the group goals also match.

How can I join an Honors Group?

In February, all groups submit a progress video.  Directors decide “Honors” designation based on these videos.  There is no quota for how many groups can be designated “Honors”, each group is selected by their own merit and not compared to others.  “Honors” signifies that the group prepared the piece well with advanced phrasing, intonation, and good energy.

CHAMBER MUSIC REPERTOIRE

Can I request which piece my group studies?

You can request repertoire on your application form, during the audition, or in a separate email to your director.  You can also request multiple movements or works. Those planning to do the VOCE chamber competition will need two contrasting pieces. If you would like help selecting another work, please communicate with your coach or your director.  For the Final Concert, pieces should be a maximum of 8 minutes. Honors groups may play up to 10 minutes. We request groups not take repeats. If you are unsure about your piece length, please contact your director.

REHEARSAL & COACHING INFO

I’m excited for my child to be matched with a group, where do rehearsals usually take place?

Rehearsals generally take place in the most centrally located home, or the home with the best layout for chamber music/best piano.  Some groups rotate which homes host the rehearsal.  Coachings are generally at the coaches’ home or studio.

When are the rehearsals, and how much of a time commitment is it?

Most groups meet weekly for approximately one hour.  Rehearsals typically start 4 weeks after Orientation (November).  Groups have 8 hours of professional coaching and have the option to sign up for additional workshops.

PERFORMANCE VIDEOS

Are all performances professionally video-recorded and can I get a copy? Or are parents encouraged to record at performances?

All performers will receive a professionally recorded YouTube video of their final performance as part of their tuition.  Parents can also feel free to make their own recordings.

ADDITIONAL LESSONS/ COACHINGS

Can I request a private lesson with my JCM coach?

Coaches are not able to teach students privately until a year has passed. The only exception is if the private teacher requests this.

Can my group request time from the coach?

Groups can purchase extra coachings through JCM for $120/hour.  To do this, email bookkeeper amy@juniorchambermusic.org and let her know how many additional coachings your group will need.

TOURS

I’m excited about the amazing tours you offer, are parents able to participate?

Yes, we encourage family and friends to join the tour.  Tours are a wonderful way for families to bond with their child while sharing lifelong memories of exploring new countries and meeting new friends.
