Resonance Trio

Sean Yu is currently a 9th grader attending Northwood High School in Irvine, CA. He has pursued his interest in music with clarinet, and has started playing for five years since 2018 under Claire Jaeyoun Chung. Sean has participated in the Irvine Honor Band for four years. He has also been awarded the John Philip Sousa Award in 2022 for his excellence in music in middle school. He has consistently participated in the CASMEC All-State and SCSBOA All-Southern bands, in which the latter has been placed the top chair several times. In 2020, he participated in the Southwestern Youth Music Festival and placed 1st in the Open category. Sean Yu has also placed 2nd in the Expert Division of IAPMT's Concours International de Musique Competition in both the Free Choice and Romantic category. His playing has been called "extremely strong and passionate" by competition judges. Sean joined JCM in 2022 as a freshman in high school in the Resonance Trio with Zara B'far and Yohana Kim.

In addition to musical pursuit, Sean enjoys listening to music, watching movies, and playing tennis. He also frequently goes out with his friends to play sports or hang out.

Yohana Kim (16) is a junior at Troy High School. She started playing piano at the age of 5 and has been studying with Mrs. Youngsook Park since the age of 9. Over the years, she has been a first place winner in Southwestern Youth Music Festival and local MTAC competitions as well as a finalist in the SCJBF Complete Works Audition; most recently, she placed first in the CAPMT Sonata Competition. On the side, she has performed for nursing homes and at church. This is her third year in JCM and first time as a Debut Artist. In her spare time, she enjoys writing, lettering, and pen-palling.

Zara B’far is a determined and fiery cellist with 13 years of experience, most known for her musicality, power, and beautiful interpretations of music. She has been studying with Joon Sung Jun since she was 5 years old. Zara has performed around the world in Berlin, Prague, Budapest, Vienna, and more. She has started a cello studio at Lyceum Village and has been in JCM for 10 years. B’far excels in chamber music and played the Mendelssohn D minor trio at 10 and the Cafe Music at 13. Zara’s JCM groups have won first place in the VOCE State Chamber Music Competition, JCM Chamber Music Competition, International Grande, and more. Zara also spent 8 years playing basketball and played varsity D1 at Fairmont Prep, and spends lots of her free time playing basketball or working out at the gym. Zara is an academic as well, and spends her time reading French and Russian philosophy. Zara enjoys the beach and loves to decorate her room and spend time thrifting with her friends.
