Dr. Hui Wu
Winner of the Ryaichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund Award, Dr. Hui Wu has been praised as “sparkling” by the New York Times and “a rising star” by the China Musical Weekly. Her recent performance highlights include premieres in Los Angeles Philharmonic Composer Fellowship Concert at Disney Concert Hall; “Art as Activism” concert with Christopher Rountree and contemporary ensemble wild Up; debut of her “Lone Journey” multimedia project in collaboration with the USC Thornton Arts Leadership Program, in addition to chamber music appearances in China with Rainer Honeck, and in Los Angeles with Stefan Dohr and Stefán Ragnar Höskuldsson. In the past seasons, her performances have included solo recital tours and masterclasses in China and Germany. Other highlights included opening night concert in the Tully Scope Festival in Lincoln Center with Jeffrey Milarsky and contemporary ensemble Axiom, chamber music appearances with choreographer Zach Winokur and the Juilliard Dance Division, and celebration of the centennial of John Cage on the FOCUS! festival in Alice Tully Hall. She has been invited to Music Academy of the West, Taos, Yellow Barn, Goslar Concert Working Weeks, BIMFA, among others music festivals. Her performances have also been broadcasted on WQXR 93.6 FM and KUSC classical 91.5 FM. She has also performed with the New Juilliard Ensemble, Thornton Edge Contemporary Ensemble, the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Xia’men Symphony Orchestra and Moorpark Symphony Orchestra. A new music advocate and a composer herself, Dr. Wu has premiered and recorded works by composers such as Elliott Schwartz, Paul Chihara and Eric Nathan.
Founder of ensemble demitasse, She earned her doctorate degree in piano performance at University of Southern California with concentration in composition, arts leadership and music education. She studied at The Juilliard School for her Bachelor and Master’s degrees with full scholarship. Her teachers include Matti Raekallio, Jerome Lowenthal, Stewart Gordon, Philip Lasser, and Donald Crockett. Currently, Dr. Wu serves on faculty at The Colburn School, Moorpark College, and Junior Chamber Music.
