Gary Hung
Taiwanese violinist Gary Hung has built a diverse career as a performer, educator, and conductor of youth string ensembles. His performing experience spans conducting, solo, chamber, and orchestral performances, taking him to concert stages across the United States, Europe, and Asia. As a tutti violinist, Mr. Hung has played with orchestras such as the Cleveland Orchestra, Pacific Symphony, and Galveston Symphony. Additionally, he has contributed to numerous soundtracks, including Fox's popular series, "The Simpson's Halloween Special."
Mr. Hung is a versatile string educator with experience teaching at Santa Ana College and California State University, Fullerton. Currently, he serves as the String Specialist at Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District. In addition to his teaching roles at the university/college level, Mr. Hung enjoys mentoring talented violinists at his private studio. His students have consistently earned awards and recognition in international and local competitions and performed solo with esteemed orchestras like the LA Chamber Orchestra, Pasadena Symphony, and New West Symphony. Many of his students pursuing music degrees have been accepted to prestigious institutions such as USC Thornton, Colburn, Peabody, Curtis, Juilliard, Oberlin, and Northwestern.
Mr. Hung received his performance degree from Rice University's Shepherd School of Music and his teaching credential from California State University, Fullerton. During his graduate studies, Mr. Hung was chosen as one of the ten violin finalists to receive the Josef Gingold Memorial Violin Fellowship Award while interning with the Cleveland Orchestra. Mr. Hung was a Kenneth Goldsmith, Ernest Salem, I-Kuan Wu, and the late Noumi Fischer student. Mr. Hung has also performed in Masterclass settings for world-renowned musicians and pedagogues such as Cho-Liang Lin, Yfrah Neaman, Elmar Olivera, Leon Spier, Kathleen Winkler, and Fredell Lack.
