Edgar Melendez

Edgar Melendez is a professional saxophonist based in the Los Angeles/ Inland Empire areas. He is currently the adjunct professor of saxophone and sax ensembles director at CSU San Bernardino. He has performed professionally with the Santa Barbara and Redlands Symphony. As a student he has performed with the USC Orchestra, Opera, Wind Ensemble, UCLA Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, CSUSB Wind Ensemble, Chamber winds, Musical orchestra, Pep band, Jazz band and Jazz Combo as a soloist and section member.

Edgar has performed at venues such as: The Granada Theater with the Santa Barbara Symphony, LACMA with the UCLA Philharmonia. As part of the sax studio at UCLA, they took part in the 35th Annual Japanese Saxophonist Association Festival 2015 in Japan. Currently, Edgar is performing with the USC Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, new music groups, and Award winning Kintsugi Quartet formed at USC (MTNA State Winners 2019, 2nd place MTNA Southwestern Regionals 2019).

Edgar is currently in his Doctoral program at the University of Southern California. He earned his Master of Music in performance from the University of California Los Angeles, and both his Bachelor of Arts degrees in Performance and Music Education from California State University San Bernardino. At USC, he is currently studying classical saxophone with Dr. Jessica Maxfield and jazz saxophone with Chris Sullivan. His past teachers include Dr. Robert Knop, Dr. Michael Couper, Justo Almario, and Dr. Douglas Masek.
