Debussy Quartet

Valerie Chen, 17 years old, started playing the violin at the age of eight. She is currently studying with Ji Young An. Since then, she has been awarded top prizes in the LANSUM international competition, the U.S. New Star International Competition, the Medici International Music Competition, the Satori String Competition, the Southwest Bach Festival, the Southwestern Youth Music Festival, the Antelope Valley Bach Competition, the Great Composer Competition, the MTAC VOCE competition, and the Music Teacher Association of California Scholarship Competition. She was the Gold Medalist of the Southern California Junior Bach Complete Work Competition and also received a scholarship from the Friends of William Grant Still Arts Center. She has had the opportunity to work with world-renown musicians Movses Pogossian, Sean Lee and Radim Sedmidubsky. Recently, she made her concerto debut at the age of 14, performing the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with the Tehachapi Symphony Orchestra. In her spare time, she likes reading, drawing and playing with her dog.

Madeline Saldana, 16-year-old violinist from Downey, California. Has been studying at the Colburn Community School for 10 years with her teacher, Rumi Shimasaki. She's deeply involved in chamber music, currently playing in two string quartets, a duet, and a trio. In the past, Madeline has performed in a trio at the Downey Theatre alongside Hollywood composer Lars Clutterham. Outside of performances, Madeline is extremely passionate about bringing more music learning opportunities to communities of color, having now been a violin teacher for the Downey Foundation For Educational Opportunities throughout the past four years. She's also active in Downey schools' music community, tutoring students, playing in a high school band, and volunteering in the DUSD Mariachi Program. When she's not playing music, Madeline is involved in a multitude of school clubs and is on her school's tennis team. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, baking, and playing with her pet bird.

Meghan Piker, 18, is a Freshman at Santa Monica College. She began playing the Viola at the age of 12 and has been playing for 6 years. She has also been playing the guitar for 7 years. She has been studying under Emily Williams-Gregg for 3 years. She has been section leader in the Glendale Youth Orchestra since joining in 2021. She was also a part of the Glendale Youth Symphony from 2018 to 2023 and was a section leader as well. She was a part of the student leadership of the GYS and is currently a staff member, helping to run the website. She has performed with the LA Opera in their world premier of “Las Tres Mujeres de Jerusalén” in 2021. She is majoring in Business Administration. Meghan also loves to cook, drive through nature, and go to the beach.

Jammie Park, 15 years old, is a sophomore at Claremont High. She began playing the cello at the age of 8 and has been playing the cello for 7 years. She is currently studying with Stella Cho. She plays in the Claremont Youth Symphony Orchestra and has been a member for two years. She has won first place as a co-winner in the CYSO competition and played with the Claremont Symphony Orchestra as a soloist. She also plays the piano as a hobby and actively serves as an accompanist at her church. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her friends and family.
