CoCo Yanan Hu
CoCo Yanan Hu is an outstanding cellist, artist instructor. She leads an active career as a cello soloist, teacher, and chamber and orchestral musician. As a former cellist of the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, she serves as principal cellist of the Dana Point Symphony Orchestra currently and often performs with Pacific Symphony Orchestra, Corona Symphony Orchestra and Symphony Irvine, to name a few. She has performed extensively throughout China as well as Singapore, Switzerland and the United States as cello soloist, chamber musician and orchestra musician. She has played in performance and master class settings with such renowned artists as Yo-Yo Ma, Lynn Harrell, Lang Lang, Martin Chalifour, Ning Feng, and more.
Currently residing in Tustin, California, Ms. Hu enjoys an active teaching career and is committed to the development of music education of young aspiring cellists. Over the years, Ms. Hu’s students have won top place of variety competitions both in China and the US, such as China National Youth Strings Competition, SYMF, VOCE of MTAC, Bowed Strings Competition of ASTA, Great Composers International Competitions, American Protégé International Competition, Satori Strings Music Festivals, etc, as well as concerto competitions of youth orchestra. Meanwhile, her students have been accepted into prestigious school and youth orchestra like OCYS/E, PSSS, PSYO, LA Youth Phil, National Youth Orchestra, etc, and many have been appointed to be cello principal. Her students have been performed at Carnegie Hall, Renee and Segerstrom Concert Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall. Ms. Hu has been invited to judge multiple competitions and teach at music festivals such as Montecito International Music Festival, Sunshine International Music Festival and Satori Strings Competition. She has been invited to be the artistic advisor of Schoenfeld International String Competition in 2018.
Ms. Hu holds both her Bachelor and Master of Music Degrees and Performer’s Certificate in Cello Performance. Her teacher includes Prof. Xiao-Ying Han, the secondary generation student of Mstislav Rostropovich in Xi’an Music Conservatory, as well as Prof. Pin-Fei Tang, in La Sierra University, and Albert Roman, former principal cellist of the Basel Symphony Orchestra in Switzerland, both in China and in Switzerland.
