Brio Con Trio

Isaiah Sohn grew up in Redlands, California in a family where music was part of their daily lives.

He has been studying under Dr. Kookhee Hong for the past 3 years. During this time, Isaiah has also taken interest in chamber music and has joined the Junior Chamber Music (JCM) Honors Tour to Germany in Summer 2022. He finds music-making challenging at times but has enjoyed the journey in improving himself artistically.

He has been selected to participate in master classes given by Antoinette Perry, Dr. Tina Chong, Dr. Frank-Immo Zichner, and Dr. Magdalena Stern-Baczewska. Isaiah has won numerous awards in piano competitions such as the Southwestern Youth Music Festival (SYMF), Music Teachers Association of California (MTAC) Orange County Branch Theme Festival, Southern California Junior Bach Festival, and Concours Junior Grand Prix 2023.

His other activities include Speech and Debate and all things sports as a senior for Redlands High School. He is a varsity tennis team member and four time All Citrus Belt Team member. He is also a captain on the Speech and Debate team, with a ranking of second in the state of California and eighteenth in the nation, reaching finals in state and national level competitions numerous times.

Roy Baek is 16 years old and it is his third year in JCM. With JCM, he has played at the 2022 Honors Tour in Germany and the 2023 Honors Tour in Italy. Roy has been studying the cello from a very young age and currently studies with Professor Bongshin Ko of California State University, Fullerton. He has attended various master-classes from renowned musicians including Dennis Kim, Warren Hagerty, Moni Simeonov, Margaret Batjer, and Grace Fong. Roy has been awarded in various local competitions including SYMF, Satori, and Concordia in both Solo Performance and Chamber Music. This year, he also won 1st Prize of the International Music Competition “Amsterdam” Grand Prize Virtuoso music competition in Solo Performance. At Portola High School, where he is currently a Junior, he is a member of the varsity tennis team and conducted the school’s orchestra as a guest conductor at this year’s winter concert. In his free time outside of cello, Roy enjoys playing tennis and spending time with his family and friends.

David Wang (15) has been learning the violin for 10 years and is currently studying under Leslie Ho. A freshman at Troy High School, Troy has earned multiple solo competition awards including multiple in VOCE, ASTA, and MTAC competitions. His first official chamber music experience was as quartet violinist in JCM’s 2023 summer tour of Italy. David, one of the Debut Artists from JCM-IE, won first in Concordia chamber competition and was a second prize violinist winner at Amici Solo Competition 2024.
