Arno Quartet
Wesley Tjangnaka (16, viola) is a junior at Portola High School and has been playing viola for 7 years. This is his first year taking part in the JCM Program. He has won many awards in various competitions including SYMF competitions as well as ASTA LA Finals. Wesley has also performed in many orchestras, such as the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra (2017 - present), IUSD Honors Orchestra (2014 - 2019), and the CASMEC All-State Honor Orchestra (2016 - 2019), and has performed at prestigious concert halls around the country such as Carnegie Hall. In addition, he is an active performer in the community, performing for the elderly or in various city events. Wesley currently studies viola with Hui-Ling Hsu.
Loren Kim (16, piano) has started playing the piano at age 5. He since studied under the wing of many established musicians, including Heewon Kwon, Pavel Petrov, and Kevin Kwan Loucks. He had the honor of performing with the LA Dream Orchestra twice at the Colburn School and also competed in the Virginia Waring International Piano Competition and the Steinway International Piano Youth Competition. Loren has also participated and won prizes at several local competitions and festivals in the past few years, such as 1st place in the 8th and 9th annual OCKCC Music Competition, 2nd place in the LAYPC Young Pianist Competition, and is a winner in the MTAC Bach and Baroque Festival. Outside of the competitive stage, he also enjoys volunteering to accompany for various shows and plays with his school orchestra as well. Loren is currently homeschooling and is studying under Dr. Myong Joo Lee.
Anna Fruman (17, cello) has been studying cello for twelve years. She has won first place in the JCM/CAPMT Young Musicians Concerto Competition and has placed in various competitions, including the ASTA Solo Competition Los Angeles Finals and the Los Angeles Violoncello Society Scholarship Auditions. Anna has performed with the Orchestra Collective of Orange County and has participated in chamber music and solo masterclasses with distinguished artists such as Lynn Harrell, Awadagin Pratt, Anderson & Roe, and faculty members of the Juilliard School and New England Conservatory. As an orchestral musician, Anna has been a member of the Pacific Symphony Youth Ensembles, the Orange County School of the Arts Symphony Orchestra, and the University High School Symphony Orchestra. Anna has been a JCM Honors Group member for six years and has been selected twice to attend the JCM Honors Tour. She currently studies with Professor Joon Sung Jun.
Sanghyun Kim (17, violin) has served as a concertmaster of the Portola High Schol Symphonic Orchestra since sophomore. Born in Seoul, South Korea, Sanghyun has played the violin for 11 years. With effort and passion, he has performed myriads of repertoire in a few youth orchestras, such as Word Youth Symphony Orchestra, All-State Honors Orchestra, SCSBOA All-Southern California Honors Orchestra, Irvine Honors Symphonic Orchestra, and the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra. Since 2016, he has participated in Junior Chamber Music (JCM). His ensemble has been named 2018~2019 & 2019~2020 season debut artists of JCM, and most honorably, his Quartet(Zenith) was awarded the 2nd place in Chamber Music Division at ENKOR International Music Competition in 2019. He also won first place and third place in the SYMF competition(2016, 2017) and an honorable mention award in the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra (PSYO) concerto competition(2018). In 2019 Interlochen Summer Arts Camp he participated with a full scholarship, Sanghyun was named a concertmaster of the World Youth Symphony Orchestra, and he has gotten a full-ride offer from the 2020 Interlochen Summer Arts Camp again. For the last four years, he has been volunteering at the homeless shelter in Santa Ana every Sunday morning, trying to share his music with people in need.
