Alexander Zhiroff

Alexander Zhiroff was born in Russia, and trained under three of Russia's most respected cello teachers.

Mr. Zhiroff graduated with honors from famed Gnessian Institute in Moscow with a doctorate, and was invited to remain on staff as their primary musical instructor. His teaching career took him to Cuba as Professor of Cello and also as a performer at the Superior Institute of Arts, and in 1985 he returned to Russia as the Chairman of String Department for the Sergei Rachmaninoff Conservatory of Music.His performing career has included solo and chamber music recitals and appearances with orchestras in Russia and Cuba, most notably as a frequent feature soloist with the State Philharmonic and the Union of Soviet Composers.

Mr. Zhiroff also recorded as a soloist for EGREM Records; (Cuba), BBC (Scotland), and Gosteleradio (Russia). Alexander stays active freelancing in the movie, recording and television industries.His is widely sought after as a teacher. His students have won many prominent National cello competitions. He currently teaches at the Orange County High School of the Arts.
