Mentoring

The faculty and staff at the Junior Chamber Music program understand the challenges that young musicians (and their parents) face when considering a career in music. One of the best ways to approach these challenges is by asking questions and meeting different professionals in the field. In JCM, students will meet and work with 2 to 3 music professionals every season. In addition to this, JCM students can meet additional professional musicians through workshops, master classes, and tours. These introductions and meetings are very important for young musicians, providing a resource when contemplating future colleges, repertoire choices, summer festivals, competitions, and many more.

We encourage students that are serious about music to get involved in as many of the JCM programs as possible. In programs such as Composers Direct!, Playing with the Pros, and the Tours (Honors Tour or Music in the Mountains Tour), students will make lifelong connections with the professional musicians. The connections lead to new opportunities for students far beyond JCM, including performances with orchestras, life-changing music festival experiences, and recognition in From the Top and the Fischoff Competition.
