Vorpal Trio

Vorpal Piano Trio: Sydney Mariano, violin; Derek Chao, piano; Kenny Kressin, cello

Sydney Mariano is a senior at University High School. Performed in master classes for renowned violinists such as Nadia Salerno-Sonnenberg, Paul Kantor, Talich Quartet, and the Fugu Trio. Winner of the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra Solo Competition and performed with the orchestra in the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. Looking forward to competing in the American String Teachers Association National Orchestra Competition as concertmaster of the University High School Symphony.

Derek Chao is a junior at Whitney High School. Passed the advanced level of the MTACM with branch honors at the age of ten. Top prize winner at several piano competitions such as SYMF, Southern California Bach Festival, and Glendale Piano Competition. Entered the finals in Virginia Waring International Piano Competition in 2011. Participated in Junior Chamber Music for six years. Participated in master classes with many virtuosic teachers including John Berry, Bernadene Blaha, ad NIng An.

Kenny Kressin is a junior at Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA). Enjoys performing with numerous orchestras and ensembles, especially JCM piano trios. Looking forward to performing in Vienna, Prague and Slovakia this summer with OCSA Symphonic Orchestra. Plans to major in cello performance in college and to add a second major for aviation.
