Beethoven Duo

Beethoven Duo: Charmaine Lee, violin; Jerry Guo, piano

Jerry Guo (17) is a senior at Troy High School. He started piano study at 5 and cello at 9. He has been placed multiple times at SYMF, Junior Bach Festival as well as been invited to perform at MTAC Convention Festivals. His current teachers are Dr. Hyewon Cho and Ms. Ying Wang. It’s his second year at JCM and he is thankful for the great program that he is able to seek the balance between his passion to music and the rigorous school work.

Charmaine Lee (16) has been playing the violin since she was 5 years old. She is a junior at Inspire Charter Schools. For the past two years, she has been studying with Sam Fischer at the Colburn School of Performing Arts. She previously studied with Lucy Qing Huo.

She has won many awards in competitions including MTAC, ASTA, VOCE, and SYMF. In 2018, Charmaine won first place in ASTA's preliminary round and second place in the LA Finals. She also received a Merit Scholarship from the Colburn School. Charmaine has attended the Montecito International Music Festival and the Idyllwild Summer Chamber Festival, where she was selected as concertmaster of the Festival Orchestra in 2018. She has recently soloed with the San Fernando Valley Symphony Orchestra after winning first place in the MTAC competition.

Charmaine performs in chamber ensembles through Junior Chamber Music and the Colburn School’s Edelman Chamber Music Intensive. This is her 5th year in JCM's Inland Empire branch. In 2016, she joined JCM's Honors tour to Boston and New York and performed in the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall.  Her chamber group at Colburn was selected to perform on the LOS ANGELES Museum of Art's Sundays Live early in 2018. Charmaine has been a member of the Claremont Young Musicians Orchestra for the past four years, and was concertmaster of the CYMO Intermezzo Orchestra.

Charmaine devotes much time to community service. She is the Branch Coordinator for JCM's Student Service Alliance for the Inland Empire Branch, and she has arranged many concerts at senior and nursing homes. She also plays at preschools and mommy-and-me’s for younger children.
